A Medford and Somerville-based school known for its computer science and pre-med programs ranked among nine other top private universities in Forbes’s “The New Ivies” 2025 list.
Tufts University found itself in company with colleges like Northwestern University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Georgetown University.
“The New Ivies” list started in 2024 after Forbes found that about a third of employers were less likely to hire applicants from Ivy League schools now compared to five years ago. Forbes highlighted 10 public and 10 private universities that are reportedly on par or exceed Ivy League standards and are more attractive to employers.
“We’re happy that our inclusion on this list will help people unfamiliar with Tufts recognize what our students and alumni have always known: Tufts is a special place that provides an excellent education, is doing groundbreaking research, has a supportive community, and helps launch successful and meaningful careers,” said Tufts spokesperson Patrick Collins in a statement.
Tufts and the University of Washington in St. Louis replaced Boston College and the University of Southern California in this year’s private university list.
Tufts currently has more than 6,800 undergraduate students and nearly 6,400 graduate students enrolled and has about 150 major and minor offerings.
