Donald Trump’s approval rating is tanking, even in Alabama

President Donald Trump’s approval rating is even on the decline in Alabama as he hits the 100-day mark of his second term, polls show.

Trump enjoyed a 50% approval rating at the start of his second term for a net approval rating of +3 percentage points, according to the Economist/YouGov poll.

But when the poll surveyed respondents from April 25 to April 28 — the eve of his first 100 days in office — 43% of U.S. adults had an favorable view of Trump compared to 54% who had an unfavorable view — a net approval rating of -11.

Trump’s steepest decline is among young Americans between the ages of 18 and 25, the poll found.

The president started his second term with a +5 net approval rating among this group.

But by the 100-day mark, Trump had a disastrous -20 net approval rating — a massive 25-point swing among young Americans.

Trump’s approval rating has also nosedived with Americans of every age group: 30 to 44-year-olds (from -6 at the start of his second term to -15 now); 45 to 64-year-olds (from +12 to -4); and Americans 65 years old and over (from -4 to -6.)

Even in areas where Trump’s approval rating is above water, the president is not immune to a decline in popularity.

In Alabama, a state the president has repeatedly professed his love for, Trump began his second term with a 59% approval rating compared to a 37% disapproval rating, according to Civiqs, which breaks down approval ratings by state.

On April 28, the president had a 58% approval rating in Alabama compared to 38% disapproval.

The latest polls confirm other surveys that show Trump’s popularity declining.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll released Sunday showed Trump at 55% disapproval and a -13 net approval rating.

A CNN poll had Trump at 57% disapproval and a -14 net approval rating and a CBS poll had him at 55% disapproval and a -10 net approval rating.

Those surveys came on the heels of a New York Times/Siena College Poll on Friday that showed Trump with 54% disapproval and a -12 net approval rating.

On Wednesday, a Fox News Poll showed Trump with 55% disapproval and a -11 net approval rating.

Trump railed against the Fox News Poll and News Corporation’s CEO and chairman in a Thursday morning Truth Social diatribe.

“Rupert Murdoch has told me for years that he is going to get rid of his FoxNews, Trump Hating, Fake Pollster, but he has never done so,” Trump posted Thursday morning to his Truth Social media platform.

“This ‘pollster’ has gotten me, and MAGA, wrong for years,” Trump continued before tearing into one of Murdoch’s other media properties.

“Also, and while he’s at it, he should start making changes at the China Loving Wall Street Journal. It sucks!!!”

Trump’s approval rating was the lowest for any president heading into their first 100 days in 20 years.

Joe Biden was at 54% after his first 100 days, while Barack Obama was at 62% and George W. Bush had a 63% approval rating at the 100-day mark of their presidencies.

The same poll found 62% of respondents want Trump to succeed — the lowest percentage of any president in 20 years.

Before Wednesday’s poll, the lowest mark of any president on that question was George W. Bush.

In early August 2006, 63% of voters said they wanted Bush to succeed in his second term, the poll found.
