Breaking: Portland Trail Blazers part ways with three assistant coaches

The Portland Trail Blazers won’t renew the contracts of assistant coaches Roy Rogers, Chris Fleming and Ryan Gomes, an NBA sources has told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Rogers arrived in Portland before the 2020-21 season and oversaw the team’s defense, which showed improvement last season.

Fleming arrived last season and worked extensively with point guard Scoot Henderson and also helped coordinate the offense.

Gomes worked as a player development coach.

Replacements have not yet been identified. The Blazers continue to evaluate the staff and more changes could be made.

Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was signed to a contract extension at the end of this season. The fifth-year option on his contract was picked up and he received two additional seasons.

Now that Billups is cemented as the team’s coach for the next three seasons, he can rebuild his staff for the long term.

The Blazers went 36-46 this season, a jump from finishing 21-61 the previous season.
