Taylor Ryan, Sophia Avin and Reese Baker all hit home runs to back the two-hit shutout pitching from Floyd. Emily Miller added two hits and two RBIs for the top-ranked Hawks.

No. 5 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy remained on its perch as the area’s best independent schools softball program with a 5-0 win over Greenbrier Christian Academy in a non-conference game at N-SA.
The Saints (14-4) won their 10th consecutive game, handing the Gators (20-2) their first defeat after 15 wins in a row. Sophomore Addy Smith pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 as the Gators chased her fastballs high in the strike zone all afternoon.
Paige Meeks’ RBI double highlighted a two-run second inning for the Saints. They scored two more in the third, one by Malli Groves, who led off with a single, then stole second and third bases before scoring on Sophia Grant’s grounder.
Carleigh McCoy and eighth-grade standout Elise Barbour reached on bunt singles to start the fourth inning, with Barbour scoring on Makenna Kuehl’s grounder. The Gators’ Cienna Jordan robbed the Saints of a run later in the inning with a diving catch of Smith’s fly ball to left field.
“She was lights out on the mound, hitting her spots and mixing it up down and out,” Saints’ coach Brittany Thornburg said. “She had really good command today.
“(Greenbrier) has some dominant hitters in that lineup so I was happy for her.”

The Clippers were led by Emerson Sweeney with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two total runs. Mackenzie Kirchner and Riley Amato both went 3 for 4 with one and three respective RBIs. Amaya Helt and Alexis Henley tallied two hits each. The losing Islanders were represented by Tinley Goodson with two RBIs.

Wells threw a complete game shutout while striking out five. Aerabella Heigl’s single in the bottom of the sixth drove in the go-ahead run for the Comets.

Greenwood picked up the win with eight strikeouts and one earned run. Kassidy Freeman recorded three RBIs while Demetria Burton and Bailey Hare each tallied three hits.

Miguel Morton, Jonah Heatherly, Ethan Vuong and Andrew Pope all recorded wins in singles and doubles for the Chiefs.

The Dolphins improved to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the Beach District. Victor Hovannessian had his first start of the season at No. 6 singles, defeating PA’s Lucas Letada (7-5, 6-4).
