4 Baltimore County schools affected by redistricting changes

The Baltimore County school board voted Tuesday to approve two Catonsville-area boundary changes affecting four elementary and middle schools.

In March, the school board received recommendations from the district to approve the boundary changes. Public hearings were held on each proposal in April.

The school board unanimously voted to approve both sets of boundary changes.

The plan for Arbutus and Catonsville middle schools was intended to improve transportation efficiency and effectiveness of the schools’ feeder patterns. The change would place all rising middle schoolers from two neighborhoods, the Melvin Avenue/Winters Lane and Pataspco Woods/Forest Glen areas, into Catonsville Middle School. Just 21 current students would be affected by the change in the coming year.

The other proposed boundary change would affect Hillcrest and Westchester elementary schools and five total residential parcels of land in the area. At the end of the 2023-’24 school year, five students lived in the residences that would be folded into Westchester Elementary’s boundary, according to previous presentations made to the board.

Both boundary changes will come into effect in the 2025-’26 school year.
