In 2014, FOX16 News anchor Donna Terrell hosted the first-ever Donna Terrell’s Yoga Warriors Fighting Colon Cancer, a community-wide free yoga event for all fitness levels. Terrell’s daughter, Queah, found strength and comfort in yoga while she battled colon cancer before passing away in March 2011.
“I saw how practicing yoga helped Queah feel better during her treatment, and it made me realize how impactful yoga can be while battling a serious illness,” Terrell says. “My hope is to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga during cancer treatment and recovery during this annual event while also supporting those in our community fighting the disease.”
Past events allowed Yoga Warriors to give thousands to CARTI, Baptist Health, The 20th Century Club and other organizations helping to provide resources like liquid nutrition to those battling cancer.
This season’s event, set for Saturday, May 17, is the first since 2021 and will raise funds for the new Donna Terrell’s Warrior Lodge at Jefferson Regional in Pine Bluff. The facility broke ground in October 2024 and will offer no-cost accommodations for patients receiving treatment at the Jones-Dunklin Cancer Center.
Yogis of all levels are welcome to the morning event, a gathering featuring yoga sessions, raffles, giveaways, snacks, self-care and health tips from experts and more, including a chance to raise funds for the cause.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. – noon at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Little Rock. Admission is free, and guests are invited to bring their own mat.
