Jemison senior living facility owner allegedly stole thousands from elderly resident

The owner of an assisted living facility in Chilton County is accused of spending thousands of dollars that belonged to a resident under her care.

Taneshia Brown, 39, of Birmingham, is charged with first-degree financial exploitation of an elderly person, Jemison police announced Monday. The charge is a Class B felony.

Brown is the owner and operator of Bella Wood Senior Living in Jemison.

Police said they launched an investigation after they received information that Brown was receiving and, without authorization, spending money from the bank account of a 76-year-old resident.

“An investigation was conducted, and evidence suggest that Brown either received or spent several thousand dollars from this account,” according to a news release. “This investigation, along with the possibility of other victims, is still ongoing.”

Anyone with information about the case or any other suspicious incidents involving Brown and the facility is asked to call Deputy Chief Marc McMinn at 205-576-6773 or marc.mcminn@yahoo.com.
