You blinked, and it’s mid-July already. And some of our favorite summer events are popping up this week including Milwaukie’s annual Porchfest, the Oregon Country Fair, and the 50-year anniversary of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt show. We’ve also got plenty of metro-area events like the Rose City Vintage Market and East Portland Bike Fair.
Milwaukie Porchfest
This year is the sixth annual Porchfest and will again offer dozens of free concerts in neighborhoods across Milwaukie. Listen to music, comedy, and more for three weekends on Friday nights. Head to the website for a map of locations, then walk or bike to whatever sounds good to you. All performances are free.

Oregon Country Fair (Veneta)
This Oregon summer favorite encourages you to let your inner child run free, dance and sing outdoors in veritable fairyland of sights and sounds. There are stage shows all day, and strolling performers line the pathways. From puppet shows to poets, and jugglers to jam bands, there’s something for just about anyone. Shop booths of more than 300 artisans that sell their hand-crafted goods, some only available at this event. As always, tickets are not available at the gate. “By My Own Hand, Part 4: Melody”
Allie Hankins presents a solo work that use an interweaving of movement, sound, and specter made from tape recorders with looping tapes generating unexpected rhythmic patterns. The sonic fragments are paired with dances, gestures, and images, “shaping a world of dissonance, entanglement, and transformation,” according to the website.

Rose City Vintage Market
Garage sale season is in full swing. But if driving from sale to sale isn’t your jam, the Rose City Vintage Market offers a similar experience but all under one roof at the Expo Center. There’s even out outdoor Flea Market offering even more bargains and items to pursue. Expect antiques, midcentury finds and Americana from vintage dealers from all over the West.

Willamette Valley Lavender Festival & Plein Air Art Show
It’s the 20th anniversary of this festival held in Newberg. Celebrate lavender in many forms including art, food, crafts and more. Shop vendors offering distinctive lavender products. Children’s activities will be hosted at the CCC Youth Art Activity Tent.

East Portland Bike Fair
Does your bike need a tune up? This annual neighborhood bike fair offers lessons in riding and on safety skills, helmet fitting, quick-fix bike repair, and short, guided rides to practice your safety skills. Much of this is aimed at children, but all ages are welcome to this free event. If you don’t have a bike, you can borrow one.

Saint Benedict Festival (Mount Angel)
Have you ever been to the Mount Angel Abbey? This Benedictine community in the mid Willamette Valley was founded in 1882 and maintains a monastic tradition that has been a vital part of the Roman Catholic Church for more than 1,500 years. The festival offers a chance to see the life of this community up close. Events include concerts, prayer, a picnic lunch on the lawn, book signings, lawn games and more. Reservations required and are limited to those 21 and older.

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show
Quilting fans from all over the country head to the tiny central Oregon town of Sisters for this annual outdoor quilt show. This year the show celebrates its 50-year anniversary with special events (some require tickets) before and after the free outdoor show. Visit the website for details.

“Marcus Passion”
Portland Baroque Orchestra offers a “pocket passion” featuring four singers, a narrator, and a small period orchestra — including two gambas and two lutes. The featured performer is actor Joseph Marcell restoring a long-lost cornerstone of Bach’s Passion settings. The recent work reimagines Bach’s “Markus Passion” for modern audiences, blending music and theater. The Pacific Northwest performances will be led by PBO’s Julian Perkins.

OMSI Star Party: Summer Night Sky
Summer is for stargazing. It’s the time, in Oregon, when you’re most likely to get clear views of planets, moons, starts and other celestial sights through telescopes. OMSI, Rose City Astronomers, and Oregon Parks and Recreation invite the public to a free evening under the stars at L.L. Stub Sewart State Park. All ages are invited and experts will help you find treasures in the night sky.

“In a Landscape” Portland performances
Hunter Noack’s groundbreaking classical music series makes a two-day stop in Portland as part of a far-reaching tour that brings amazing music to outdoor spaces.

Legendary Makers Market Beaverton
This summer event attracted over 10,000 attendees in 2024 and could see a higher turnout this weekend. The Friday-Sunday market will feature about 200 vendors offering food, baked goods, cultural art, jewelry, skincare, ceramics and more, along with indoor activities and performances at the adjacent Patricia Reser Center for the Arts.
