Cops searching for duo who violently robbed N.J. couple at gunpoint in driveway

Police are searching for two men who assaulted and robbed a New Jersey couple at gunpoint as they returned home from Philadelphia Sunday night. Police said they were followed.

The attack happened at a home on Eton Drive in the Crofton Run development of Washington Township in Gloucester County, township police said in a statement on Monday. A 911 call summoned police to the scene at 11:33 p.m.

The suspects, who were both wearing dark clothing and masks, approached a man and his fiancé as they were exiting his Mercedes-Benz in the driveway of a home. They’d been at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Philadelphia, police said.

One of the robbers struck the man in head with a gun, demanding his Rolex watch and wallet. The other held the woman at gunpoint while ordering her to remain silent, police said.

The male victim suffered injuries to the head and elbow, but declined medical treatment.

The suspects then fled on foot towards Jospeh Drive with both the wallet and watch, authorities said. Surveillance footage captured them entering a waiting getaway car at the intersection of Eton and Joseph drives. The vehicle fled the area towards Fries Mill Road.

The robbery was also caught on multiple residential surveillance cameras, police said.

A analysis of license plate readers found that the suspect vehicle was following the victims since at least 11:20 p.m., when their Mercedes-Benz was on Route 42 and entering Washington Township, investigators said.

The suspect vehicle had a paper license plate with a number that is not on file, according to police.

Detectives were in Philadelphia Monday investigating, police said. Anyone with tips to call detectives Lou DiAmbrosio or Matt Barnett at 856-589-0330.
