Ujima Company Opens 47th Season with Godspell

Ujima Theatre Company is thrilled to unveil its 2025-2026 season, packed with bold, dynamic, and deeply resonant productions. This season is all about community, resilience, and the raw power of storytelling. The powerful lineup blends beloved classics with fresh, fearless new works—voices that challenge, inspire, and entertain in ways only Ujima can.

Ujima opens its season with the iconic musical Godspell by John-Michael Tebelak, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. This uplifting production, directed by Tioga Simpson, brings together an eclectic group of individuals to tell timeless parables through song, dance, and joy. With its message of hope and unity, Godspell promises to be a joyous celebration of faith, love, and community. Ujima is proud to present this production because of its deep connection to the ideals of collective responsibility and the belief that one person’s kindness and service can uplift all. In a time when we need unity more than ever, Godspell reaffirms the power of community and our deeply fragile shared humanity.

“I believe this show to be, at its core, about community. It is about how people, searching for a place to belong, come together around shared ideals and the love of a person who cares about them all,” says Simpson. “This is the story of Christianity, but also the story of Ujima and of so many of the communities and chosen families that we as people need to survive. I hope that audiences will come to this show with open hearts and open minds, ready to be welcomed as members of the Ujima community.”

Ujima’s production of Godspell features Kristen-Marie Lopez, Aaron Saldana, Emory Redfearn, Timiyah Love, Julia Pitarresi, Arianna Moore, Lexus Hale, Gabriella McKinley, Curtis Lovell as Judas and Cordell Hopkins as Jesus. It is sure to be a momentous and joyous start to an all-star season.
