An Essex County man faces kidnapping and other charges after police said he carjacked a Porsche with a 15-month-old baby inside.
Dwan Littlejohn, 30, of Newark allegedly stole the vehicle about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday from the 100 block of Sanford Street in East Orange, according to police.
“The victim’s young child was in the vehicle at the time of the theft,” an East Orange police spokesperson said in an email.
After a brief chase, police detectives pulled over the car on Shepard Avenue in Newark, the spokesperson said.
Police found the baby in the vehicle, and said the toddler appeared unharmed. Detectives said they do not believe Littlejohn knew the baby was in the car.
Littlejohn was charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree theft of a vehicle valued at more than $75,000, second-degree endangering, and two counts of resisting.
He was held at the Essex County Jail pending a court hearing.
Attorney information for Littlejohn was not contained in court or jail records on Thursday.
