Man, 50, critically injured in hit-and-run on Nimitz Highway

A 50-year-old man was critically injured early today after being struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run on Nimitz Highway near Kalihi Street, Honolulu police said.

The incident happened around 12:03 a.m. when the man was lying in the eastbound lanes of Nimitz Highway and was struck by an unidentified motorist who continued driving without stopping to help, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section.

Police said a second unidentified motorist also hit the man and drove away without rendering aid or providing information.

Emergency Medical Services transported the man to a nearby hospital in serious condition, where his condition deteriorated and he was later listed in critical condition.

Investigators said it is not yet known whether speed, alcohol or drugs were factors.
