The final production of the Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s 2025 SummerStage season is nearing, marking the end of another great season of live, local theater. “The Glass Menagerie” will run Sept. 2-14 on the downtown stage.
Written by Tennessee Williams, one of America’s greatest playwrights, “The Glass Menagerie” premiered more than 80 years ago and is known for captivating audiences with its lyrical language, emotional depth and themes of memory, longing and dreaming. It has seen many revivals and screen adaptations with iconic actors such as Jessica Tandy, Katharine Hepburn, John Malkovich and Zachary Quinto.
The play follows the narrator and protagonist Tom and his recollection of his mother, Amanda, and his sister, Laura. Amanda worries about the futures of her adult children, all while reminiscing about her younger self. In an effort to find a suitor for his sister, Tom invites his work acquaintance, Jim, to dinner at their small apartment in St. Louis. As the evening unfolds, old connections resurface, bringing both hope and the risk of shattering illusions.
Directed by Tatyana-Marie Carlo, the final production will feature artists from central Arkansas and across the country.
Pay-what-you-can performances will be held Sept. 2-4 and tickets to these discounted shows must be purchased in person on Sept. 2 from 9-10:30 a.m.
