Dennis Parker Jr., a North Carolina State transfer, poured in a school- and Big South-record 53 points Sunday to spark the Radford Highlanders to a 107-77 home victory over Coppin State.
Parker shattered the Radford record of 43 points, set by Doug Day in December 1990, and the conference record of 51, set by Campbell’s Chris Clemons in March 2017.
Parker, from Richmond’s John Marshall High, was 19 of 24 from the field, including 10 of 14 from 3-point range, as a major contributor to the 61% field-goal shooting (38 of 62) by Radford (5-7). He grabbed eight rebounds and sank 10 of 14 free throws.
Hussain Williams led the Eagles (2-12) with 19 points, while Hassan Perkins had 15.
Virginia Tech 82, Maryland Eastern Shore 53: Neoklis Avdalas scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half, when the Hokies outscored UMES by 20 to pull away at Cassell Coliseum.
Avdalas added seven assists. Christian Gurdak had 13 points and eight rebounds, Tyler Johnson added 12 points, and Amani Hansberry had 12 points and nine rebounds. Ben Hammond scored 10 points for the Hokies (10-2), who won their fourth consecutive game and are 7-0 at home.
Dorion Staples and Christopher Flippin scored seven points each to lead UMES (4-11), which has lost five straight. The Hawks, 0-11 all-time against the Hokies, were within 26-24 before falling behind 38-29 at halftime.
William Peace 77, Regent 67: Shawn Jones scored 14 points to lead five Pacers in double-figure scoring as William Peace overcame the Royals in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Darrin Clark and Dorian Tema scored 12 points each for Regent, and Joshua Hanna had nine points and 10 rebounds. The Pacers led 43-32 at halftime after shooting 58% from the field.
Apprentice 82, Tidewater Community College 50: The Builders (6-5) breezed past the Storm (1-9) at the Great Ships Classic in Newport News.
Shamon Rosser had 15 points and eight rebounds for Apprentice. Jahlil Hope added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, Devon Brown had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Jabari Brackett scored 10. For Tidewater’s first-year team, Derrick Grant scored 12 and Destin Love had 10 points and four steals.
Gaston 87, Virginia Peninsula Community College 68: Kaleb Siler’s 21 points and Ryan Evans’ 16 points and 14 rebounds propelled Gaston at Ashbrook High in Gastonia, North Carolina. The Gators, who lost both of their games to Gaston, fell to 8-5.
No. 4 Iowa State 78, Eastern Illinois 53: Milan Momcilovic scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as Iowa State opened a season 11-0 for the third time. Blake Buchanan had three dunks while scoring all 14 of his points in the first half, and Joshua Jefferson had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Cyclones.
Kooper Jacobi and Zion Fruster scored 11 points each to lead the Panthers (2-8).
Wake Forest 111, Queens 73: The host Demon Deacons (8-3) shot 62% from the field (36 of 58) and routed the Royals (5-6) in an in-state clash behind Myles Colvin’s 33 points and eight rebounds. Also for Wake, Omaha Biliew had 16 points, Nate Calmese 15 and Juke Harris 14.
Chris Ashby scored 15 for Queens.
