Student killed in Standish school bus crash, sheriff says

A student was killed in a crash involving a school bus near Edna Libby Elementary School in Standish, Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce confirmed Tuesday morning.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. during pickup time on Northeast Road near Route 114, Bonny Eagle School District Superintendent Clay Gleason said in a phone call.

The student was elementary school-age, Gleason said, but he did not confirm which school the student attended.

Gleason declined to comment further but said more details would be released later.

Northeast Road (Route 35) was shut down Tuesday morning between Route 114 and Moody Road because of the crash.

The crash is under investigation, Joyce said. A Maine State Police spokesperson confirmed that the agency is assisting at the scene.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
