In 2019, the Supreme Court ruled in a similar case concerning the exclusion of Black jurors by the same prosecutor, Doug Evans. In a 7-2 decision, the justices ruled in the favor of Curtis Flowers, who was found guilty of quadruple murder in 1996. Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the majority opinion that overturned Flowers’ conviction on the basis the prosecutor engaged in racial discrimination during jury selection.
