One person died in an early morning crash inside the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on Monday.
Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash that happened just before 2:40 a.m. on Interstate 64 eastbound inside the tunnel, according to a release.
A gray Nissan Altima blew a tire and was disabled inside the tunnel, police said, when it was hit by a red Acura MDX traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Altima was ejected and died at the scene, according to police. The driver of the Acura was injured and taken to a local hospital.
The identity of the Altima’s driver has not been released, pending notification to next of kin.
No other information was released and police said the crash is under investigation.
