Mililani house fire extinguished; no injuries reported

Honolulu Fire Department crews responded to a residential fire at 94-435 Lanikuhana Place on Sunday afternoon after receiving a 911 call at 1:32 p.m. reporting smoke coming from the home.

Eight HFD units with 24 personnel were dispatched. While crews were en route, a fire dispatcher heard smoke alarms sounding as a neighbor — who smelled and saw smoke — provided information to 911.

The first unit arrived at 1:37 p.m. and found light smoke coming from a medium-sized, single-story residence. Firefighters forced entry after determining no one was home, secured a water supply and launched an aggressive interior attack. Water was applied to the fire at 1:44 p.m., and the blaze was brought under control and fully extinguished by 2:26 p.m.

Searches confirmed no occupants were inside, and no injuries were reported. Crews conducted overhaul operations to extinguish remaining hot spots and check for hidden fire extension.

An HFD fire investigator is determining the cause and origin of the fire and will provide damage estimates. An update will be released once the investigation is complete.
