Skier dies after crashing into tree at Copper Mountain Resort

A skier died after crashing into a tree Friday morning at Copper Mountain Resort, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said, marking the third death reported at a Colorado ski resort in January.

Deputies were called to the resort at 10:45 a.m. after a man crashed on American Flyer, an intermediate run, the sheriff’s office said on social media.

“The initial investigation shows the skier, who was wearing a helmet, lost control and collided with a tree with considerable force,” sheriff’s officials said on Facebook.

Bystanders witnessed the crash but no one else was involved, the agency said.

Copper Mountain Ski Patrol started lifesaving measures, and the man was taken to the CommonSpirit Emergency and Urgent Care near the base of the mountain, where he was pronounced dead.
