CHESAPEAKE — An apartment building fire in the Greenbrier section of the city has left 16 people unable to stay in their units, according to a news release from the Chesapeake Fire Department.
The Chesapeake Fire Department responded to Harmony at Oakbrooke apartments, a senior living facility located at 301 Clearfield Avenue. A resident smelled smoke and saw water flow inside the building and made a report to the department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:37 a.m. and located a fire in the attic of the building. The fire affected an estimated 10 foot by 15 foot area of the attic. The fire was marked under control by 11:10 a.m.
Due to water damage, there are 19 apartments that cannot be used. Some of the apartments were already vacant before the fire. This has caused 16 residents to be relocated into vacant apartments on the properties.
No injuries were reported from the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
