Audubon forces Gloucester wrestling to share division title in Colonial Conference

Audubon’s surprising 35-26 victory over Gloucester denied the visitors an outright Colonial Conference Liberty Division championship and forced the Lions to share the title with West Deptford.

Brandon Weeks sparked a late comeback for Audubon at 215 pounds, pinning Bryce Busan in just 27 seconds to erase a two-point deficit and give the home team a 30-26 lead.

Jonah Jordan sealed the victory at 285 pounds with a technical fall over Trevor Butler.

Audubon (16-7) built an early 9-0 advantage behind a pin from Mason Knopka at 106 pounds and a sudden victory win by Josiah Kailie at 113.

The Green Wave extended their lead to 24-10 after James McSweeney’s pin at 144.

Gloucester (14-6) mounted a furious comeback with five consecutive victories in the upper weights.

Darrian Smith started the rally with a 7-4 decision at 150 pounds, followed by Greg Harris’s 15-9 decision at 157.

Derek Scruggs added a major decision at 165, and Harry Ulmer and Ashton Wall posted consecutive decisions to give Gloucester a 26-24 lead heading into the final two bouts.

Luis Velazquez and Gavin Lee provided bright spots for Gloucester in the lower weights, with Velazquez recording a 49-second pin at 120 pounds and Lee earning a major decision at 126.

Mike Aversa’s pin at 138 pounds was crucial for Audubon during Gloucester’s mid-match surge, helping maintain the Green Wave’s cushion before the late drama.
