Micah Gordon had just scored in the final 4:59 what most players would consider outstanding for an entire game, and he was a spinning, fading, speed-changing handful through most of it.
Yet all the clutch junior guard really wanted to talk about after another brilliant performance was defense…and the merits of his teammates…and how tough Elizabeth was to tame.
Leave it to Gordon to pull off the unlikely duality of being both humble and highlight reel with equal amounts of style and conviction.
Gordon pumped in 15 of his game-high 32 points in the final 4:59 – including a dizzying 10-point run in an 18-second span – to rally fourth-ranked Plainfield to a 73-59 victory over No. 18 Elizabeth in a key Union County Conference-Watchung Division battle Monday night at the Rico Parenti Gymnasium in Plainfield.
