If you didn’t have a copy of Sublime’s self-titled album, “Sublime” in the ’90s, did you even have a CD player?
Real millennials know every word to “Santeria” and “What I Got,” both the explicit version and the radio edit.
Real millennials know which songs to skip when your mom is in the house.
But if you thought Sublime was a band relegated to the last century, you thought wrong.
The band is bringing “Sublime Me Gusta Festival” to Portland’s Waterfront Park this summer.
According to a press release, the festival takes its name from “the iconic lyric ‘Me gusta mi reggae, me gusta punk rock’ from the song ‘Caress Me Down.’”
“Caress Me Down,” of course, is a mom skip, even though the festival is all ages and, again, according to the press release, “embodies everything Sublime stands for: sun-soaked vibes, rebellious spirit, and a love for music without boundaries.”
The festival is set for Saturday, June 27, and will feature Cypress Hill, The Interrupters, Long Beach Dub All Stars and more.
Sublime will also perform, though it will be a different makeup than the band that recorded “Me gusta mi reggae, me gusta punk rock.”
Bradley Nowell, Sublime’s original lead man, died of a heroin overdose in San Francisco in 1996 when he was 28, two months before “Sublime” was released.
His son, Jakob Nowell, born in 1995, now plays with Sublime.
Tickets start at $89.99 and are already on sale at megustafest.com.
