A 63-year-old man has died after he reportedly lost control of his vehicle while traveling westbound on the H-1 freeway and crashed into the wall of the Vineyard off-ramp early this morning.
According to Honolulu police, the fatal motor vehicle collision happened at about 4:18 a.m. today. The man was traveling westbound on H-1 freeway, struck the center concrete median, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the wall of the Vineyard off-ramp.
He was transported in critical condition to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, according to police. The man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. His identity was not immediately released.
Police said speed did not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision, but it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
This marked the 11th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 18 at the same time last year.
The investigation is ongoing.
