A Hancock County probate judge and attorney turned himself in to an Ellsworth jail Tuesday morning after allegedly missing a court hearing last week regarding unpaid child support payments.
William Blaisdell was suspended from practicing law in April 2025 after failing to prove he was paying taxes and child support.
Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest late last week, accusing Blaisdell of failing to appear for a hearing in Belfast District Court. He was found in contempt of court in a family matter, a court clerk said Friday.
Hancock County Jail Administrator Tim Richardson confirmed that Blaisdell turned himself in to the jail Tuesday morning and was released after posting $16,929.50 in bail.
The Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar opened an investigation into Blaisdell in 2024 after a Waldo County judge found that he was behind on tens of thousands of dollars in child support and had failed to file three years’ worth of taxes.
Blaisdell failed to pay more than $33,000 in child support payments to his ex-wife. He was ordered to pay her $50,000, including attorney fees and interest, according to court records.
