Amid record heat in Las Vegas, snow and ski season at Lee Canyon ends early

Amid record heat in the Las Vegas Valley, Lee Canyon announced that Sunday, March 22, will be the final day of its ski and snowboard season. Typically, the snow and ski season ends in mid-April.

The season began Nov. 21, thanks to early-season snowfall.

“Lee Canyon was grateful [to] start the season in November with all lifts running for the first time in more than a decade,” said Josh Bean, Lee Canyon’s general manager, in a media statement. “As we wrap winter, our team is shifting gears to prepare the mountain bike park and for summer operations. We have a full calendar of summer events and programs, so there’s a lot for the community to look forward to.”

This weekend, Lee Canyon is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is the resort’s annual Pond Skim event, with music, prizes and costumes. Guests of all ages are invited to test their skills gliding or splashing in the pond.

The resort will remain open following the winter season. Next weekend, March 28 and 29, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for ski chair rides and a passholder appreciation party. Starting April 3, Lee Canyon will offer scenic chair rides and the Bristlecone Bar will remain open. Summer operations begin Memorial Day weekend.
