RSL beats D.C. United for its first victory since April 26

Real Salt Lake defeated D.C. United 2-0 in a Major League Soccer game on Saturday night in Sandy, ending a seven-game winless streak.
RSL (5-10-3) had not won a game since April 26 at San Diego, and had endured four losses and three draws since then.
Johnny Russell and Zavier Gozo each scored transition goals for RSL in the win over D.C. United (4-9-6).
Russell, signed as a free agent in April, scored his first goal for Real Salt Lake in the 23rd minute. The former Sporting Kansas City captain took a long pass from Diogo Goncalves, cut to his left and into the box, and drilled the ball past D.C. United goalkeeper Luis Barraza.
Gozo scored in the 77th minute off a long pass from Alexandros Katranis.
RSL had a 20-8 advantage in shots in the game, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
RSL goalkeeper Rafael Cabral made one save to earn the shutout.
With the game played during FIFA’s international window, RSL played without USA midfielder Diego Luna and Polish winger Dominik Marczuk.
Before the game, RSL held a ceremony inducting former goalkeeper Nick Rimando into the team’s Ring of Honor. Rimando’s name joined those of Jason Kreis and Javier Morales on the west-side fascia inside America First Field.
RSL is scheduled to return to action June 28 at Kansas City (6:30 p.m. MDT, Apple TV).
