On Wednesday at 6:54 p.m. a flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 11 p.m. for Burlington County.
“At 6:54 p.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly,” states the weather service. “Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas.”
The weather service comments, “Don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.”
