Bonney Lake/Sumner drops a 5-3 decision to Las Vegas in LLWS

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Northwest representative in the Little League World Series, an all-star team from Bonney Lake/Sumner, rallied in the last inning but fell short Friday, losing 5-3 to a team of all-stars from Las Vegas.

Bonney Lake/Sumner now faces the team from Braintree, Mass., Sunday, while the Nevada team, with its two victories, meets South Carolina on Monday.

Friday, Nevada jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and Bonney Lake/Sumner was playing from behind virtually the whole game.

In the bottom of the sixth, the last inning, Finn Harrington hit a run-scoring double that nearly left the park to cut the gap to 5-3, but the Washington team could get no closer against Nevada pitcher Ethan Robinson, who finished with seven strikeouts.

Connor Smith had a run-scoring triple in the fifth for Bonney Lake/Sumner.

Bonney Lake/Sumner had seven hits total with Colton Audette, Gavin Heacox, Landon Teafoe, Atley Eager and Cole Sehlin each having a single.

The Washington team was hurt by its four errors.

MINOR LEAGUES

• Tacoma’s relief pitching collapsed as the Rainiers gave up six runs in the final two innings to lose 10-9 at Las Vegas (68-50). Tacoma (66-52) took a 9-4 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning when Collin Snider gave up four earned runs. Then in the ninth, Jesse Hahn gave up a two-run homer to Zack Gelof, his second homer of the night. Harry Ford had a homer for Tacoma and Cade Marlowe added two doubles. Leody Taveras had two singles and two RBI and Victor Robles had a two-run single for a 6-2 lead in the fourth. Rhylan Thomas had two singles.

• The AquaSox didn’t score until the ninth inning, and by then it was too late as host Hillsboro (50-62) was a 3-1 winner over Everett (54-58). Milkar Perez drove in the only Everett run with a two-out single in the ninth. Nico Tellache pitched six strong innings for the AquaSox, allowing one run on four hits.
