Previous episode recap
Last week’s episode dove deeper into the battle between Colum and Dougal regarding who would be the next MacKenzie laird. Despite the brothers desperately wanting to put the other in his rightful place, Ellen devised a plan to get the brothers to team up in hopes of crushing another character’s ploy to win the position.
In the end, Ellen secured the help of the clan’s legal counselman, Ned Gowen, and was able to band the brothers together, and at the official oath taking, Colum was awarded the title of laird and Dougal snagged the position of the war chieftain.
As it has been since the beginning of the series, flashbacks were included in last week’s episode and depicted Ellen’s father, the former MacKenzie laird, and revealed to viewers more about his relationship with each of his children (primarily Dougal, Colum and Ellen).
Though the bulk of the episode focused on the MacKenzies and the process of inducting a new laird, the episode also featured Julia and her day-to-day life as she now serves as a servant for the Fraser patriarch.
While showcasing the various chores Julia tackled daily, the episode also revealed that Julia is currently pregnant with Henry’s child, unbeknownst to him. Unfortunately for Julia, though, the other housekeeper was suspicious of Julia’s lack of a menstrual cycle and discovered her pregnancy. After denying it, Julia was warned that if Lord Lovet figured out she was pregnant, she would be severely punished and cast out onto the streets.
To secure the only “safe” space she’s found since arriving in Scotland, the episode left off with Julia visiting the lord’s chambers and participating in intimate relations with the lord so she could claim the child was his, ensuring she would not be thrown out of the estate.
