Peacock Lane announces 2025 dates, moves pedestrian-only nights

Portland’s popular neighborhood light display is back for another year of festivities, but this year there’s a twist.

Organizers of Peacock Lane, in addition to listing the 2025 dates, announced on Monday a new change to the event’s pedestrian-only nights, which will now take place over a weekend.

The lights on Peacock Lane, which cover the houses on the Southeast Portland street, are usually seen by car, though organizers typically shut down the street for two nights each year to allow pedestrians to take over the block. Those nights have typically taken place on Mondays and Tuesdays.

This year, those pedestrian-only nights will be on Friday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 20. The whole event will run from 6 to 11 nightly Dec. 15-31.

The free Christmas light display, running since 1932, draws thousands of visitors every December to the Lane’s four residential blocks in Southeast Portland between Stark and Belmont streets. The mostly Tudor houses are adorned with displays that including Santa, The Grinch and more. Each resident is responsible for their own light display, and while none of the homes is obligated to have a display, just about all of them do.

It’s one of many holiday light displays that will illuminate the city this season.
