I agree with John Teichert’s excellent assessment of Maryland Democratic Gov. Wes Moore’s redistricting efforts solely to aid his national political aspirations with little regard for fairness to Marylanders (“Wes Moore’s redistricting effort doesn’t serve Maryland’s interest,” Dec. 10)
Let’s face it, Wes Moore doesn’t like being governor of Maryland anymore and can’t wait to wipe Maryland’s dust from his shoes; his only reason for hanging around here is the glamorous national attention it affords him — George Clooney doesn’t live here and Wes can’t wait to get back to Lake Como.
Gov. Moore has shown little respect for the well-being of Maryland families, as few governors would have saddled their citizens with those outlandish tax and fee increases he gifted us last year — with General Assembly Democrats applauding — while blaming former Republican Governor Larry Hogan. Now, his desire to redistrict Maryland’s lone Republican congressional district out of existence is another slap in the face to the millions of Maryland citizens who aren’t Democrats.
Does redistricting further democracy in Maryland? What is the governor’s redistricting plan? Does he even have a plan? What are the new congressional district lines Gov. Moore is proposing? Devising new congressional districts must be complex, detailed work, in which the governor doesn’t seem much interested, as it’s not easily explained on CNN.
Maryland is not as liberal as our unfair, anti-democratic General Assembly and congressional elections and districts are. How is Gov. Moore helping to fix that? If Wes Moore wants to have a positive, lasting impact on Maryland before he bolts to the national scene, helping create fairer elections and districts would be monumental to his legacy.
