Sebago will be hosting a party at its town offices on Tuesday to commemorate the town’s anniversary. During the festivities, Sebago officials will unveil the town’s new comprehensive plan, a document outlining guidelines for the community’s future.
Feb. 10 marks 200 years since the town’s incorporation in 1826. Initially formed from the northeastern portion of the town of Baldwin, over the years, Sebago grew to encompass portions of Denmark and Naples.
The celebration will include the Pledge of Allegiance led by the local girl scout troop, a reenactment of the town’s 150th anniversary proclamation, a recorded performance of Sebago Elementary School students singing the local anthem “Sebago,“ and a representative from Sen. Susan Collins’ office reading a proclamation.
In addition, the event will serve to highlight Sebago’s new comprehensive plan, which was last updated in 2006. Last year, the town put out a request for comprehensive plan proposals.
Proposals for the plan, the request document said, would include, at minimum, a snapshot of all aspects of Sebago as it is today, a vision for the town over the next decade, and a strategic plan to achieve said vision. The full plan will also include a vision statement; maps, graphs and other tools to assess economic development, infrastructure, transportation and other potential improvements; goals, policies and actions; and an integrated sustainability component.
Proposals were due by Oct. 20, with work on the new comprehensive plan beginning in early December. Planning was done with close collaboration between the consultant, town staff, residents and several town boards.
Sebago Town Manager Michael Chammings could not be reached for comment ahead of the event.
