Eighth-seeded Gorham held No. 9 Scarborough to two points in the fourth quarter as they pulled away for a 58-47 win Thursday in a Class A South girls basketball preliminary-round game in Gorham.
Logan Doughty scored 20 points for the Rams (11-8), who next face top-ranked Cheverus in the quarterfinals Tuesday at the Portland Expo.
Zoe Dellinger chipped in with 14 points and Lauren Dunbar added 12. Gorham was 9 for 14 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter as Scarborough was forced to foul after falling behind. The Red Storm (7-12) led 45-44 entering the fourth.
Scarborough was also up 29-27 at halftime, aided by six 3-pointers in the second quarter. Eva Alvarez led the Red Storm with 18 points and Helena Bukarac had 11.
WESTBROOK 50, MASSABESIC 24: Emma Boulette hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter to help the Blue Blazes (12-7) break open a close game against the Mustangs (5-14) in a Class A South prelim in Westbrook.
Westbrook, the No. 6 seed, advances to play No. 3 South Portland in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Portland Expo.
Lyla Dunphe scored all nine of her points in the second half as the Blue Blazes outscored the Mustangs 32-8. Boulette finished with 14 points and Hattie Clark had 12.
Siena Carbone tallied eight points for 11th-seeded Massabesic.
