A 29-year-old woman is in serious condition following a moped crash in the Ala Moana area early this morning.
The Honolulu Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Section responded to the scene near Liona Street around 3:10 a.m. According to investigators, the woman was traveling southbound on Keeaumoku Street when, for unknown reasons, her moped veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk, striking a hollow-tile cement wall.
The impact ejected the rider onto the sidewalk. Paramedics treated and transported her to a nearby hospital in critical condition, though officials have since upgraded her condition to serious.
Police said she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors, police said. The investigation is ongoing
