An armed shooter scare that locked down Bonny Eagle High School in Standish before noon Wednesday was ruled a hoax.
Superintendent Clay Gleason, on Facebook, reported that sometime after 11:35 a.m. the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a call claiming an armed shooter was on the first floor of the high school. Gleason said several deputies “immediately responded” and the school was placed on lockdown while the building was searched.
Law enforcement “quickly cleared” the incident as a hoax, Gleason said shortly after noon, and students returned to their regular schedules.
“It appears this unfounded report was a swatting call,” Gleason said. “We appreciate the swift response by our law enforcement partners and school administration to ensure our students’ safety.”
