Legendary rapper Tone Loc calls off Las Vegas Strip appearance

Tone Lōc has wrapped his planned appearance at the Cosmopolitan before it even started.

The hip-hop legend is not joining Thursday’s “Back to the 80s” party at Barbershop Cuts & Cocktails. Lōc’s participation in the event was announced Wednesday.

A rep from Clique Hospitality, which operates the venue, said in a statement, “Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, Tone Lōc will no longer be performing tonight.”

The scheduling conflict was made public a day after the artist, born Anthony Terrell Smith, was announced as a guest star for the club’s throwback show and party. It was also after news of the event broke Wednesday afternoon.

The event was set up as an unbilled guest spot by the celebrated performer. Lōc was to sing his classic late ’80s anthems “Funky Cold Medina” and “Wild Thing” to celebrate his 60th birthday, which was March 3.

The party will go on, in the rapper’s absence. House band Neon Knights is playing a full set. Doors are at 8 p.m., no cover, reservations encouraged, go to thebarbershoplv.com for intel. Guests are encouraged to wear era-appropriate attire.
