UW softball downs Michigan for 14th consecutive win

Ava Carroll went 3 for 3 with three RBI and the No. 17 Washington softball team beat Michigan 9-7 for its 14th straight win.

In the back-and-forth contest, the Wolverines scored in every inning but the first to keep things interesting, but four errors contributed to four unearned runs and ultimately the loss.

Giselle Alvarez went 2 for 4 with two RBI, and Kaycie Burdick and Alex DeBoer both had two hits and an RBI for UW (24-6, 8-0 Big Ten).

Morgan Reimer allowed five runs, four earned, in four innings and improved to 15-1 in the circle this season.

Sophia Ramuno allowed four runs, two earned, over the final three innings to pick up her first save.

BASEBALL

• Washington was held to just two hits by No. 13 USC and lost 5-0 on the road.

Daniel Porras and Colton Bower had the only base hits for the Huskies (9-12, 4-3 Big Ten).

Matt Priest homered and drove in two runs as Washington State beat visiting Grand Canyon 7-3 in the series opener.

Ollie Obenour, Kyler Northrop and Dustin Robinson all doubled and drove in a run for the Cougars (8-12, 2-2 MWC), who also got six strong innings from starting pitcher Nick Lewis.

• Pacific scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally and beat visiting Seattle U (3-14, 0-1 WCC) 6-4.

SWIMMING

• Washington State’s Emily Lundgren finished in 15th place in the 200 breaststroke prelims in a time of 2:08.13 to earn second-team All-America honors at the NCAA championships in Atlanta.

Lundgren became the most decorated swimmer in WSU history with four All-America honors.

TENNIS

• The No. 21 Washington women (12-1, 3-1 Big Ten) fell to host Nebraska 4-3 for their first loss of the season.

HOCKEY

• Wenatchee beat visiting Everett 5-1 snapping the Silvertips’ (56-8-2-1) 11-game win streak.

• The Seattle Thunderbirds (29-27-6-4) beat visiting Spokane 4-3 in overtime.
