South Main District Marks 20 Years With SoMa Day Celebrations

One of Little Rock’s most vibrant neighborhoods is marking a major milestone. The South Main District will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its official designation this Friday, May 1, with SoMa Day.

Held in conjunction with its monthly SoMa After Dark event from 4-10 p.m., the neighborhood will shine a light on the businesses and community that have made SoMa a beloved “part historic, part hipster-heaven” locale.

The night will feature pop-up vendors along South Main Street, live music, menu specials, extended hours at your favorite local shops and more, including free birthday cake from Community Bakery.

The center of the celebration will be at The Bernice Garden, one of the driving elements that brought the district back to life in 2006. Guests are invited to gather in the garden for a “Happy Birthday” singalong ceremony at 6 p.m.

SoMa, which officially stretches between 12th and 29th streets, is a designated Main Street America Accredited Program with Main Street America and Main Street Arkansas. Click here to read more about the neighborhood’s history.
