Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, the restaurant from the Jonas Brothers and family, will close on or before June 1 at the MGM Grand on the Las Vegas Strip.
TheStreet.com, the financial news site, recently reported on the closure, citing an email from the brand that said it was directing its efforts elsewhere as its Vegas lease approached the end. Neon has requested a statement from MGM Resorts International on the closing but has not yet received a response.
Nellie’s Southern Kitchen opened in June 2022, a project of Denise and Kevin Jonas Sr., their famous singing sons (Kevin, Joe, Nick), and other son Franklin. The restaurant, an outpost of the North Carolina original, celebrates the recipes and cooking of Grandma Nellie, paternal grandmother of Kevin Sr., as reimagined for the Strip.
The Jonas family, including the Jonas Brothers, attended the grand opening. The band was in the middle of a residency at Dolby Live when Nellie’s debuted.
The menu features dishes such as fried green tomatoes, cheddar-chive biscuits, Atlantic salmon with sweet potatoes, chicken and waffles, fried catfish and steak frites.
Vegas has a long tradition of “celebrity” restaurants, either those opened by celebrated chefs or other food world notables (Dominique Ansel, Roy Choi, Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay, Lorena Garcia, Michael Mina, Gordon Ramsay, Martha Stewart and Lisa Vanderpump, to name just a few), or those launched by entertainment or sports figures (Jason Aldean, Jimmy Buffet, Sammy Hagar, Eva Longoria, Blake Shelton and Emmitt Smith among them).
