Hawaii setter Tread Rosenthal is a finalist for the AVCA Men’s Collegiate Player of the Year award.
The AVCA announced four finalists for the award Tuesday. The winner will be announced Friday at an event in Los Angeles a day before the national semifinals.
Hawaii (28-5) advanced to the Final Four with a win over Southern California in four sets on Saturday. The second-seeded Rainbow Warriors will play Big West rival and No. 3 seed Long Beach State in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the national championship on Monday at 1 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.
Rosenthal, a 6-foot-11 junior, made the AVCA All-America first team last year as a sophomore and was named the Big West Player of the Year last week.
He ranks second in the nation in assists per set at 10.75 and has guided the UH offense to a .366 hitting percentage, which ranks fourth in the country.
Rosenthal has made the All-Big West first team all three seasons he has played at UH and was named the conference Setter of the Week 11 times this year.
Hawaii has had four players previously win the AVCA Player of the Year award — Yuval Katz (1996), Costas Theocharidis (2001 and ’03), Rado Parapunov (2021) and Jakob Thelle (2023).
The other three finalists for the award this year are UCLA setter Andrew Rowan, Ball State senior outside hitter Patrick Rodgers and Pepperdine sophomore opposite hitter Cole Hartke.
Hawaii flies out this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s match against the Beach, which will be available on ESPN+.
