Vegas Advisor: World Series of Poker begins its 57th contest

The 57th World Series of Poker is underway, held again at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris. This year’s tournament features 100 bracelet events. The most expensive buy-in is $250,000 for the “Super High Roller” on June 13. The least expensive is $300 for the “Gladiators of Poker” that begins July 8. The prestigious $50,000 buy-in “Poker Players Championship” begins June 21 and the $10,000 buy-in Main Event starts July 2. In a major Main Event change, the final table will begin play on Aug. 3, four weeks after its nine players are determined. It’s a return to the premise of a pause before play of the final table creating a bigger buzz, though not the extreme delay until November that occurred from 2008 to 2016. The WSOP is referring to it as a “Cliffhanger” break. Viewing of all tournaments is free and open to the public.

Restaurant Week: Now in its 19th year, Las Vegas Restaurant Week will be held June 1-12 (it’s actually a 13-day event). Several of the city’s top restaurants will offer special three-course prix fixe menus, donating a portion of proceeds to Three Square Food Bank. Go to restaurantweeklv.org for a full list and deal details.

Evel Knievel museum: The Evel Knievel Experience, an interactive museum devoted to America’s original daredevil, debuts June 27. Long rumored and planned, the museum has finally relocated from Topeka, Kan., to downtown Las Vegas in the Arts District. Tickets are $35 general and $16 ages 6-12.

Question: What is crapless craps?

Answer: It’s a variation of craps in which you can’t lose on the first roll (“comeout”) of a betting sequence as you can in the standard game. Despite this, however, other altered rules more than compensate for that, raising the casino edge on the pass line from 1.4% for the standard game to 5.4%.
