Downtown Container Park opened nearly 13 years ago in downtown Las Vegas. The retail center made from shipping containers continues to entice tourists and locals alike with its variety of shops and bars, and the unmissable fire-breathing praying mantis.
You’ll find Container Park at 707 Fremont St., on the corner of Seventh Street. On the main drag of Fremont East, it’s one of the original concepts from DTP, founded by late Zappos leader Tony Hsieh.
It offers a wide range of bites, drinks, shops and activities. To get you acquainted, here are a few we recommend.

Downtown Terrace
On the second level, dine inside the brightly lit restaurant or on the patio for a relaxing brunch, lunch or afternoon snack. The menu features gluten-friendly and vegetarian items, as well as a wide range of starters, all-day breakfast and sandwiches. Bottomless mimosas, palomas, bloody marys and Micheladas are also available for $21 per guest (or $12 during happy hour, from 6 to 7 p.m. on weekdays). Downtown Terrace is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
Also worth a meal: Bin 702 (get the bottle and board special for $45, which includes charcuterie and a Chardonnay or red blend, or take a gamble with the chef’s call sandwich for $13) and Mob Pie (10 inch for $10? Say no more).

Oak & Ivy
This whiskey bar , which opened in 2014, was early to the craft cocktail scene in downtown Las Vegas. It was recently named best rooftop bar in Nevada by Chowhound, and best whiskey bar in Las Vegas by Tasting Table. On the menu, you’ll find a curated selection of beer, ciders, a handful of wines, seasonal cocktails and house cocktails — sip the Gold Bar Boulevardier for $15, featuring Gold Bar whiskey, Black DBL cask bourbon, sweet vermouth and Sorel.
If you’ve caught onto a theme here, Container Park is home to some of downtown Vegas’ best happy hours. At Oak & Ivy, from 3 to 6 p.m. Sundays through Fridays, enjoy $10 cocktails, $8 barrel-aged cocktails, $7 wells and $6 drafts.

Mantis
Who doesn’t love a free attraction in Vegas?
Mantis, according to the Container Park team, was created in 2010 by aerospace engineer Kirk Jellum and his team of 20 (and took 3,000 hours of work to build). It was a gift to his wife and built originally for Burning Man. You can’t miss the mantis: It’s 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide, and spits six feet of flames every night beginning at sundown. The sculpture is one of several Burning Man pieces that eventually landed in Las Vegas.

Container Park Lawn and Stage is home to regular (free!) entertainment, even through the hottest months of the year. Beyond that, many of the outlets in the center host events. Here’s what’s on the calendar this month:
— June 6: “Pop Rocks,” a ’90s pop rock and alt night with Didi West Band (6:30 to 9:30 p.m.)
— June 10: “Whiskey & Wine Wednesdays” (4 to 7 p.m.)
— June 13: “Slow Jam Saturdaze” with live music by String and Beats (6:30 to 9:30 p.m.)
— June 14: Second Sunday, with live music and a creators market (1 to 5 p.m.)
— June 20: “Noche Latina,” featuring live Latin sounds (4 to 7 p.m.)
— June 27: “Island Ohana Night” (6:30 to 9:30 p.m.)

Mama Sage
Gift shops, small designers and local art. Container Park has seen many a shop open, grow and create community. One current tenant stands out in all of those areas: Mama Sage. This “vibey little shop” in Suite 1080 is home to the Junk Journal Club (next event: “Summer Journal Fest” on June 27, check Instagram for details), as well as a little trinket exchange box by the entrance.
Inside, you’ll find a selection of cute novelty items, perfect for a gift hunt when you’re not sure what to get the recipient. The shop keeps up on stationery trends and all sorts of knickknacks and goodies by local creators.
