Honolulu Board of Water Supply crews are responding to two separate water main breaks in Maunawili Valley.
As of 2:31 p.m. today, the 12-inch water main break at 1148 Maunawili Road is affecting 17 customers, while the 8-inch water main break at 1282 Kika St., is affecting 24 customers.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area or expect delays as contraflow is in effect.
“Customers in the Maunawili area may experience a loss of water service or lower-than-normal water pressure while crews make repairs and work to restore normal operations,” according to a statement from the BWS.
The inbound lane of Maunawili Road is closed between Maunawili Circle and Aloha Oe Drive. The outbound lane is contraflowed to allow traffic to enter and exit the valley.
“Earlier, all lanes were closed after the water main break caused significant damage to the roadway. Following an assessment of the area, crews were able to safely reopen one lane to traffic,” according to a statement from BWS.
