2 Kauai house fires cause more than $1.8M in damages

Kauai firefighters extinguished two unrelated house fires on Wednesday — one near Anini Beach in the morning and another in the Kapahi area of Kapaa in the evening.

No injuries were reported for either fire.

The Kauai Fire Department received an emergency call for the first fire just after 6:20 a.m., with reports of smoke coming from near the end of Anini Road.

According to a preliminary report, firefighters arrived shortly before 6:40 a.m. and found a two-story home with active flames coming from the second floor. Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire

The scene was cleared shortly before 9 a.m.

Estimated damages are at about $1.45 million to the structure and $75,000 to the home’s contents.

Just after 6:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a call for a fire on Ioana Street in Kapaa.

Upon arrival shortly before 6:40 p.m., firefighters found a one-story home with flames and heavy black smoke coming from the living room area. The fire extended toward the garage, where the resident — who was already outside — reported a parked car and fuel tanks were stored.

Crews shut off electricity to the home and extinguished the fire. The scene was cleared shortly after 8:20 p.m.

Damages to the single-story home and contents are estimated at $304,000.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
