Entrées & Exits: Langdon Street Tavern Closes; Sweetwaters and the Archives Team Up

After a nine-year run, Montpelier’s Langdon Street Tavern closed its doors on Thursday, June 4. The owners of the casual restaurant and bar at 14 Langdon Street announced the news on social media. They did not give a reason for the closure when Seven Days reached out for comment, though WCAX-TV reported that the landlord “is ending the lease over a rent dispute.”

The former McGillicuddy’s Irish Pub became Langdon Street Tavern in May 2017 and was a popular place for trivia, karaoke and watching sports. It’s the second nightlife spot to close on the street since last fall, when Bent Nails Bistro moved to Middlesex, becoming Bent Nails Roadhouse.

“Through COVID, the flood, and everything in between, this place kept going because of you,” the goodbye post said, calling out its “bartenders, the regulars, the first-timers who became family, and everyone who ever pulled up a stool and made this place what it was.”

In Burlington, two downtown businesses have launched “a new neighborhood collaboration.” Over the weekend, the Archives announced that its customers can now order food from nearby Sweetwaters and have it delivered to the bar.

“It’s a simple idea, but one we think makes downtown a little more connected and your visit a little more enjoyable,” a social media post explained.

Customers playing arcade games or drinking cocktails in the bar at 191 College Street can scan a QR code to place an order for items such as a Shirt Sleeve wrap or Sweetwaters smash burger, which staff from the restaurant at 120 Church Street will walk over when it’s ready. Ordering is currently available from when the Archives opens until 9 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. ➆
