Here are Neon’s top picks for things to do in Las Vegas from Friday, June 19, through Thursday, June 25.
through the weekend/week
Las Vegas Aviators
What says summer more than a baseball game, a steaming hot dog and a crisp beer? Get them all Friday through Sunday as the Las Vegas Aviators play the Round Rock Express. On Friday, the team is giving away a Rat Pack-inspired T-shirt (playing off the old Sands hotel sign), and on Saturday, they’ll offer a red, white and blue, 250th anniversary-Independence Day jersey. (A tip for Harry Potter fans: Peek at the team’s calendar in July for some wizardly promos.)
Juneteenth
You’ll have several opportunities to celebrate Juneteenth. Henderson’s Juneteenth Festival will feature performances by Clark County poet laureate Ashley “Ms AyeVee” Vargas, singer-songwriter Thunderstorm Artis and a cappella group Naturally 7. It’s scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Water Street Plaza. Admission is free. The 25th annual Las Vegas Juneteenth Festival will bring entertainment, food vendors and local artisans to Symphony Park. The free festival is set for 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday. As part of the fest, Christopher Williams will perform at 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday in Myron’s at The Smith Center. Tickets to that concert are $25; thesmithcenter.com. And “Juneteenth in the Present: An Art Exhibition” is on display at Henderson City Hall through July 20. The free exhibit is open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Filipino American Museum
The Filipino American Museum, honoring Filipino American heritage and cultural contribution to the U.S., recently debuted inside the Boulevard Mall, 3680 S. Maryland Parkway, Suite 320 . Planned programming features exhibits, festivals, holiday celebrations and hands-on workshops covering art, language and traditions. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. Admission is $10, or $5 for students and seniors; thefilipinoamericanmuseum.com.
New Kids on the Block
Get ready to hang tough or have your tickets confiscated in shame when New Kids on the Block deliver the old-school boy band kicks and melt hearts like Hershey bars tossed into a blast furnace when they resume “The Right Stuff Las Vegas Residency” at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Wednesday at Dolby Live at Park MGM. Tickets start at $41; ticketmaster.com.
saturday
Grilling class
Bruce Kalman, celebrated chef and owner of SoulBelly BBQ, is hosting a virtual grilling class at noon Saturday in honor of Father’s Day weekend. Mega Block Party
Area15 is inviting the community to dance, eat and explore during a district-wide celebration. The Mega Block Party promises a food festival, interactive art installations, pop-ups from Area15 attractions and a performance from the electronic music duo Tritonal. The all-ages event is scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Area15. Admission is free; area15.com.
‘Bolero’
Latin rhythms and passionate dance will take the stage when “Bolero — A Bohemian Latin Musical” comes to the Plaza Showroom for a one-night-only performance. Sonoma wine dinner
From 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Ada’s, 1130 S. Casino Center Blvd., is presenting a five-course (plus amuse) dinner featuring pairings from Bob Cabral Wines, the house founded by famed Sonoma County winemaker Bob Cabral. Among the wines are 2018 Cuvée Wildflower, an aromatic riesling, and 2018 Cuvée Troubadour, a silky Russian River Valley pinot noir. Cost: $170. Reservations: OpenTable. Cabral and Kat Thomas, Ada’s wine director, will host.
wednesday
Bunt.
Last month, white-hot DJ-producer Bunt. (Levi Wijk) fulfilled the high expectations that prefaced his much-anticipated Electric Daisy Carnival debut with an irrepressibly buoyant set both sonically and thematically, his in-your-face, in-the-round performance registering as a folk-EDM pep talk at times, a techno tour de force at others. See him in a slightly more intimate setting at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Encore Beach Club at Wynn Las Vegas. Tickets are $25 for women, $30 for men; tixr.com.
thursday
Monolord
Ever heard of “riff hypnosis”? It’s a thing. Well, at least when it comes to Sweden’s guitars-for-days Monolord, who unleash the power chords to such a churning, motoric, deliberately repetitive degree that they’re capable of sending listeners into a trance-like state, broken only by frontman Thomas Jager’s soaring, sonorous vocals. Feel the rumble at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bizarre Bar, 1301 S. Main St. Tickets are $33; dice.fm.
