4-year-old in critical condition after drowning incident at Kennebunk hotel

A 4-year-old girl is is critical condition after a drowning incident at the Hampton Inn Hotel in Kennebunk on Saturday morning.

Kennebunk Fire Rescue Chief Justin Cooper and off-duty firefighter Joshua McCann responded to the scene on Independence Drive at around 9:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a child who was not breathing.

She was transported by ambulance to MaineHealth in Biddeford following resuscitation efforts.

She was later flown by medical helicopter to MaineHealth in Portland where she remains in critical condition.

In a press release, Kennebunk Fire Rescue advised the public to take caution with a list of pool and water safety reminders.

The list instructs parents and supervisors to designate a sober and attentive “water watcher,” use barriers and life jackets, consider swim lessons for young children, learn CPR and keep hazards away from drains.

The incident remains inder investigation.
