Country superstar revives Las Vegas Strip residency

In December, Tim McGraw filled four dates at the Colosseum left open when Dolly Parton canceled her shows at Caesars Palace.

McGraw is now coming back, for five dates running Oct. 23-Nov. 7. This time, the shows don’t directly align with Parton’s second canceled set of six dates that were to run Sept. 17-26. Nonetheless, McGraw is animating the room and generating business at the Colosseum.

The 59-year-old country icon’s shows are billed as custom-designed for the Vegas stage, the set list covering his 30-year-plus recording career (all shows are set to start at 8 p.m.; tickets are on sale 10 a.m. Pacific time Friday at ticketmaster.com).

McGraw has sold more than 103 million records, 49 No. 1 singles and 19 No. 1 albums on the Billboard country charts. His total album sales trail only George Strait among country artists. His “Live Like You Were Dying” topped the charts for 10 weeks. The crossover hit “Over Over” with Nelly was No. 1 for 11 weeks. He performed both in December.

McGraw and his wife, recording star Faith Hill, co-headlined in “Soul 2 Soul” at The Venetian Theatre in 2012, but Hill did not take the stage at the Colosseum.

McGraw joked in December he is “the worst singer in my family,” listing Hill and his daughters Audrey, Maggie and Gracie.

Audrey McGraw blasted “Barracuda” at the Colosseum in December, and also premiered at Red Rock Resort’s Rocks Lounge in March. Audrey’s possible participation in the upcoming shows has not been specified.

The Colosseum, which prides itself as the venue “where the legends play,” to quote exec Sean McBurney, is running with Jerry Seinfeld this weekend, Kelly Clarkson July 17-Aug. 15 and Rod Stewart’s return Aug. 18-29.

In an interview in August 2024, McBurney said of the Colosseum, “There’s no question we’ve been somewhat agnostic as to the genre of music. They just have to be legends and the biggest in entertainment.”
