Las Vegas art museum offering free admission

In celebration of what would have been its namesake’s 96th birthday, the Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum in Las Vegas is offering free admission.

The 10,500 square-foot museum showcases the late artist’s range, from landscapes to figures to abstract expressionism. During her celebrated career, Abbey worked in painting, drawing, sculpting and enamels.

Her work was greatly inspired by nature in the Southwest, specifically its landscapes and rock formations. Aside from her artistic career, Abbey was an art professor at UNLV for more than 20 years.

The museum also features a desert garden and an outdoor sculpture garden.

The Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays at 5850 N. Park Street.

Admission is typically $20, but complimentary tickets are available July 19 through 26 at ritadeaninabbeymuseum.org, with a special reception on July 19 from 2 to 4 p.m.
